ABOUT RCYC

Royal Canadian Yacht Club
was founded in Toronto in 1852 to serve both as a yachting recreational club and an unofficial auxiliary of the Royal Navy in the defence of the waters of Lake Ontario. We are one of Canada’s premier sailing and social clubs, with an emphasis on family participation, the development of our junior sailors, and a Corinthian attitude towards excellence in sailing.

The RCYC operates year round from two facilities: our summer home at the Island Clubhouse and our City Clubhouse in downtown Toronto.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS
Laser/Radial Midwinters
The Laser and Radial Midwinters have wrapped up in Clearwater Florida. Congratulations to Lee Parkhill who finished 2nd overall beating the current world champion Paul Goodison, and Canada's 2008 Olympic representative Mike Leah. Lee put together a very consistent event in tricky conditions,  putting up the scores necessary when the pressure was on. Also of note in the Laser Class was Greg Clunies and Evan Lewis finishing in 22nd and 23rd respectively. RCYC's top finisher in the radial class was Brenda Bowskill in 31st. Brenda's result qualifies her to be Canada's representative at the Youth World Championships in Istanbul Turkey this summer. Brenda has spent countless hours training over the past year to get to this point and is now off to Mexico to continue training for the remainder of the winter. Watch for our High Performance Athletes this spring at our Queens Quay facility. Training begins in April.

David Wright and Lee Parkhill Win Prestigous CYA Awards - Monday, November 23, 2009

By mmilner on 11/23/2009 2:13 PM

Congratulations to David Wright who was just awarded Canadian Male Athlete of the year for 2009. David, culminated a terrific season with a sixth place in the laser world championships as well as many top 5 finishes in the International regatta scene.

Well done david.

And we cannot forget Lee Parkhill winning CYA rookie of the year. This award is given to the 1st year Canadian Sailing Team member who has the best finish at their World Championships. Lee placed an incredible 16th overall in the laser worlds. This is the best finish for a relative newcomer to the laser class in any country for many years.

The future looks bright indeed for not only these two sailors but the many others who trained and pushed these two to their results
