The Laser and Radial Midwinters have wrapped up in Clearwater Florida. Congratulations to Lee Parkhill who finished 2nd overall beating the current world champion Paul Goodison, and Canada's 2008 Olympic representative Mike Leah. Lee put together a very consistent event in tricky conditions,  putting up the scores necessary when the pressure was on. Also of note in the Laser Class was Greg Clunies and Evan Lewis finishing in 22nd and 23rd respectively. RCYC's top finisher in the radial class was Brenda Bowskill in 31st. Brenda's result qualifies her to be Canada's representative at the Youth World Championships in Istanbul Turkey this summer. Brenda has spent countless hours training over the past year to get to this point and is now off to Mexico to continue training for the remainder of the winter. Watch for our High Performance Athletes this spring at our Queens Quay facility. Training begins in April.

Over the weekend the RSX North American Championships were held on Biscayne Bay in Miami. RCYC members David Hayes, and Graeme Locket both competed in the event, which saw typical Miami conditions of light shifty breeze from the south east. David had a string of consistent finishes netting him a 7th overall. Graeme who recently switched from Lasers into the RSX missed day one due to some technical problems put up good scores on day two. He finished 12th overall. Both sailors were using this event as a warm up to next weeks Miami Olympic Classes Regatta, racing starts on Monday.
